Rodent Proofing

Rodent proofing or rodent exclusion is a method used to eliminate all entry points in to a structure through structural modification, the average house in the southern California area will have on average 10-15 access points. Because of the similar methods in construction in the south west part of the United States, most structures are constructed about the same, so common access points will be found on most structures.

When taking on a rodent proofing or exclusion project there is a method of inspection that should be followed to quickly eradicate the rodent infestation.

1. Identify the rodent that is infesting the structure, this is very important in figuring out where to look for entry points, however this does not mean you should     ignore any section of the structure when performing an inspection.

2. Inspect the attic space and or the sub-area to look for other signs of rodents such as droppings, foot prints, rub marks and nests; this will also help in     identifying the specific rodent.

3. Inspect the exterior of the structure, start at the front door and walk around either left or right and look at the structure from the foundation to the roof, have     paper and pen handy to take notes.

4. Look at sub-vents, sub-doors, attic vents, roof vents, pipe holes and gaps in construction on the structure, keeping in mind an adult rat can fit through a     hole the size of its head, about the diameter of a quarter.
